Riding the Wave

Dear Future Children,
Your mother and I love spending time at the beach. There's something romantic about the ocean. It has no memory. The waves come and go, unaware and with no regard for whether or not you're there. Some days, the waves couldn't be better: the sun is shining; the water's the perfect temperature; and you can ride every wave until the surf meets the shoreline. Other days, you may only have one good wave that you have to make count or else the day's a bust.
Sometimes I think life is a lot like the waves that the ocean gives you. You have good times where everything seems to be going your way, and others where all you want to do is go back home and hope that tomorrow brings some better action. Unfortunately, your mom and I had one of those weeks where it may have been a better idea to just watch the ocean from our beach towels.
But sometimes that's how it goes. The world keeps turning, and we know that tomorrow will bring a better day. Maybe not immediately, but the tide is definitely turning.
In the meantime, we'll keep our chin up and continue to think about the day when we finally meet you. There's light at the end of the tunnel, and for us that light is you.
See you soon.
Love,
Dad
