Our Niece: A Superhero with Super Speed

Hi Future Kids - It feels like Fall finally fell, with the mean heat of the summer dropping off. Meaning your mom's favorite season is here and everyone will be stocking up on pumpkin-spiced lattes and apple cinnamon donuts. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!)
We spent our Summer soaking up as much family time as possible, which brings me to my personal superhero - my niece. She's four years old, as smart as a whip and as funny as can be. To be frank, she's a KID! She plays on the slide at the park, shows off her soccer-scoring skills, and is really good at hide and go seek (or at least she's 'dedicated' to her hiding may be a better way of phrasing it - we're still working on finding better spots to hide).
We can't all be perfect, but she is! There's the time spent playing pretend with her Trolls dolls. Or selling dessert out of her toy ice cream cart, where the hefty price of a penny buys you two scoops of vanilla in a cone with strawberry syrup. (I don't know how she keeps the ice cream store open with these cutthroat prices, but hey - I'm just the customer.)
What amazes me watching her grow up is her unbridled freedom. There's no sense of fear. There's no concern about tomorrow or making a deadline at the end of the week. Everything is here and now. Enjoy the moment and have as much fun as possible. It's AWESOME! And it's a great reminder to adults everywhere to slow down once in awhile and to just enjoy life.
One of my favorite things our niece does is dressing up like a superhero and showing off her superpower - which is super speed (obviously). The best part is she already knows that she wants to dress up like Wonder Woman for Halloween. (Remind me again, who is this kid, and how'd she get to be so perfect?) In any case, she's been flying around the house lately, making sure to keep the peace. I rest easy at night knowing there's someone out there protecting us.
It's a good reminder for how much fun and love Jenn and I plan on having once we adopt a child of our own. The road hasn't been easy, but we know you're out there. If you're an expectant mother thinking about adoption, please don't hesitate to contact us. We'd love to speak with you about the adoption process.
Talk soon,
Dad
