Christmas is Almost Here!

Dear Future Children,

Wow, time flies. The rollover from Thanksgiving to decorating the house for Christmas seems to be an all-consuming endeavor. We were the first customers to purchase a live Christmas tree from our local farmer this year - a slight nod to our over the top Christmas decorations...Why not celebrate Christmas as soon as possible?

I find Christmas always rings true in my heart. (Reader beware: I'm the guy who occasionally listens to Christmas music in July. Andy Williams? Yes. A thousand times, yes.) It reminds me of traditions, family, laughing and a time where people typically slow down and ask, "How are you?"

There's a greater concern for the common good around Christmas, where people actually take a breather to check out from their day-to-day and assess where the world stands, and what would make it better.

Around Christmas (and maybe it's my undying sense of optimism), I genuinely think people act and feel better. And why not? Psychology studies show that the act of giving creates a longer-lasting feeling of happiness and joy than the act of receiving.

So this year, give from your heart and give for the sake of giving.

The new year brings a new chapter with it, but there's no reason we can't start doing our part a little early.

I'm off to put some finishing touches on "Vlad" (our affectionately-named Christmas tree). And if you think I'm going to have cookies while I do it, trust your instincts.

We can't wait to adopt children of our own and welcome them into our big, festive (sometimes crazy), loving family.

We hope to meet you soon.

Love,

Dad
